• Pending is a series of drawings in my expired passport, the passport that includes my single entry student visa issued in 2009. A visa that doesn’t promise any re-entry if you ever dare or crave to leave the US. In this series, I depicted some of my family moments over the past few years of my life living far from them . The series includes a planned family reunion in 2013, which never happened due to the prolonged administrative visa process for Iranian citizens.
My drawings explore the inseparable politics of family and exile. The bureaucratic visa processes, administrative endeavor, financial hardship, unanswered correspondence, US consulate reluctance in providing information on the visa status, numerous unsuccessful calls to people in charge, all lead to these family moments getting metamorphosed into momentary conversations on the internet.
